Good News! These Mobility35 projects were completed on time and on budget. We are committed to improving mobility and reducing congestion along I-35. See our completed projects below.
Work included replacing the Slaughter Creek overpass with a new, wider bridge featuring one travel lane in each direction and a center-turn lane, adding a new southbound to northbound U-turn bridge, widening the southbound I-35 frontage road to two lanes through the intersection, and installing safety lighting from Slaughter Lane to Onion Creek Parkway.

One new ramp was added and five existing ramps were modified between RM 150 and the Blanco River.

The project included a new roundabout at the southbound I-35 frontage road and 51st Street intersection, a southbound intersection bypass lane underneath 51st Street, and reconfigured entrance and exit ramps. Bicycle and pedestrian enhancements, such as raised crosswalks and pedestrian safety beacons, have also been made.

Project Completed: June 2018
The project includes new braided ramps (where one ramp crosses over the other) that have been constructed along the northbound I-35 mainlanes between Hesters Crossing and RM 620 to eliminate merging conflicts. The north and southbound intersections of the US 79 and the I-35 frontage roads have also been reconstructed to add a third left-turn for westbound US 79. Northbound I-35 mainlane widening and bicycle and pedestrian enhancements will be completed spring 2019, weather permitting.

Two ramps on the southbound I-35 frontage road between RM 1431 and FM 3406 were reconstructed and reversed to address traffic congestion and improve I-35 frontage road and mainlane operations. Bicycle and pedestrian safety enhancements have also been made.
